Our first day in Kauai will be dedicated to discovering the surroundings of Poi' pu, in the south of the island.
We start with a first walk along the Pacific Ocean and the golf course of Poi' pu (PGA Tour for connoisseurs), starting from Shipwreck beach. No difficulty for this hike (Maha' ulepu Heritage Trail) which offers beautiful views of the crests of South Kauai and the rugged south coast (or South Shore). Count about 2 hours to go back and forth.
Before the snorkeling baptism for Flo, head towards the Spouting Horn of Poi' pu which is at the top of its form with the important swell of the day.
Then head to the beaches of Poi' pu Beach and Lawai Beach to start our snorkeling discovery of the underwater fauna. We'll have the chance to swim a few meters with a turtle! The bottom is rather mundane in Poi' pu, while some corals attract more fish to Lawai. There are showers and toilets at both beaches.
We end the day by shopping at the supermarket and we realize the high cost of living on Kauai Island.
Little restaurant advice near Poi' pu: Makai Sushi, a Japanese style restaurant inside a supermarket that offers delicious blos of raw fish with rice and other ingredients. Tasty!
